About Nova Multifest
Nova Multifest is the Atlantic region's premier multicultural celebration, returning to Alderney Landing on the Dartmouth waterfront for three days of food, music, and cultural exchange. Now in its 16th year, the free festival draws over 25,000 visitors who come to experience the rich diversity that shapes modern Nova Scotia, with pavilions representing more than 40 cultures from across the globe.
The heart of Nova Multifest is its food. Dozens of cultural pavilions serve authentic dishes from the Caribbean, South Asia, East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, alongside local Nova Scotian fare. Visitors can sample Jamaican jerk chicken, Filipino lumpia, Syrian shawarma, Indian butter chicken, and Ukrainian perogies β all within a few steps of the Dartmouth ferry terminal. Cooking demonstrations and food competitions add to the culinary excitement throughout the weekend.
Two outdoor stages feature continuous live entertainment, from traditional drumming and dance troupes to contemporary world music, reggae, and hip-hop. The festival's signature Saturday-night fireworks display over Halifax Harbour is a highlight, lighting up the waterfront for thousands of spectators. Family-friendly activities include a children's pavilion, cultural craft workshops, and a global marketplace with artisans selling handmade goods.
Admission to Nova Multifest is completely free, making it one of the most accessible summer events in the Halifax region. The festival is easy to reach: take the Halifax-Dartmouth ferry (a 12-minute ride with stunning harbour views) and Alderney Landing is steps from the terminal. Paid parking is available nearby. With its blend of food, music, and community spirit, Nova Multifest is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Halifax waterfront in late July.
