About Antigonish Highland Games

The Antigonish Highland Games, in their 161st edition, were the oldest continuous Highland Games in North America and a cornerstone of Nova Scotia's Scottish heritage. The 2026 edition was held at Columbus Field in the charming university town of Antigonish, drawing thousands of visitors for a week-long celebration of Celtic culture.

The 2026 games featured traditional heavy events including the caber toss, hammer throw, and stone put, alongside highland dancing competitions, pipe band performances, and the stirring massed bands finale. The opening ceremonies included the traditional Kilted Run and the Parade of the Clans, bringing together dozens of Scottish clans from across North America.

Beyond the athletic field, visitors explored clan tents to trace their Scottish ancestry, enjoyed traditional Scottish cuisine, and attended ceilidhs (traditional Gaelic social gatherings) throughout the week. The Antigonish area itself offered beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and the stunning St. Francis Xavier University campus.
