East Coast Kite Festival

The East Coast Kite Festival took over the skies over Halifax in 2026, returning to the Garrison Grounds at Citadel Hill for two days of colour, creativity, and family fun. This free, family-friendly, non-alcoholic event transformed the historic hilltop into a vibrant display of giant inflatable and handcrafted kites soaring overhead — from massive octopus and dolphin kites to colourful diamond and delta designs — creating a truly unforgettable visual experience against the backdrop of Halifax's skyline and harbour.

The festival ran Saturday and Sunday, July 11–12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, featuring kite-flying demonstrations, local artists, food vendors, bouncy castles, and face painting. Whether you're a seasoned kite flyer or a first-timer, all were welcome to bring their own kite or simply watch the spectacle. The Garrison Grounds provide plenty of open space for flying, and the elevated hilltop position catches the harbour breeze perfectly.
