Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival (DCAF)

The Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival (DCAF) is a free, all-ages celebration of comics and cartooning held each August on the Dartmouth waterfront. Presented by Strange Adventures Comix & Curiosities, DCAF fills Alderney Landing with dozens of cartoonists, illustrators, animators, writers, and comic vendors — described by its organizers as "like a farmer's market, but it's all comics."

The 2026 festival spans a full weekend of programming. DCAF Talks kicks off on Saturday, August 8 at the Alderney Gate Public Library with a day of artist panels, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one portfolio reviews covering everything from worldbuilding and grant-writing to queerness in comics and the role of comics in education. The main event — DCAF Shops — follows on Sunday, August 9 in the Alderney Landing Market, where artists, writers, publishers, and comic shops showcase and sell their work.

Admission to both days is completely free, and visitors of all ages are welcome. Past editions have welcomed acclaimed creators such as Vivian Zhou (Atana and the Firebird) and Scott Chantler (Squire & Knight), alongside a vibrant community of zinesters, craftmakers, and local talent. For anyone who loves comics, illustration, or creative storytelling, DCAF is one of the most welcoming and creatively charged weekends of the Dartmouth summer.
