Quick Facts
History & Description
The Wallace Harbour Rear Range Light is the taller of the two 1904 range lights at Wallace Harbour, standing roughly 45 feet high. It is a square wooden tower painted white, positioned behind the front tower so the two line up to mark the dredged channel into the harbour. The tower was decommissioned and replaced by a sector light in 1988, and in March 1994 it was sold, cut into three pieces, and relocated to Malagash Point, where it was reassembled and converted into a private summer home. It no longer stands at its original Wallace Harbour location.
The rear tower carried a catadioptric lens from 1922 to 1943, working in line with its companion for more than six decades. Although its active role has passed to a modern sector light at the harbour, the wooden tower itself still exists β carefully relocated and now serving as a distinctive private residence at Malagash Point. Visitors to Wallace Harbour will find the front range light (now a sector light) still in place at the harbour's edge, maintained by the Wallace Area Development Association. Wallace Harbour is reached along the Sunrise Trail, where the sandstone cliffs and warm summer waters make it one of the most inviting harbours in Cumberland County.
